The case of the young Cuban influencer Anna Sofía Benítez, known on social media as Anna Bensi, has transcended the borders of the island and is starting to make headlines in the international press amid growing reports of repression and restrictions on freedom of expression in Cuba.

The Spanish media El Mundo highlighted that the content creator and her mother, Caridad Silvente, are facing a legal process that could result in up to five years in prison. Both have recently been charged and remain under house arrest, prohibited from leaving the country and facing movement restrictions within Cuba.

The story has generated significant impact outside the island due to the young woman's direct testimony, who managed to publish a video on social media despite the challenges, including a lack of electricity in her home. In that material, she vividly recounted what happened during her summons at a police unit in Alamar, in Havana.

“She checked my hair, had to take off my hairstyle, my blouse, my pants…” the influencer recounted about the body search she underwent, a procedure that—she claimed—took place without her lawyer present.

The judicial process originated after the publication of a video in which two men were recorded arriving at their home to deliver an official summons to Cary Silvente. Authorities believe that this material constitutes a crime related to privacy and personal identity. However, the family maintains that it is a reprisal for the complaints the young woman has made on social media.

The case has sparked reactions both inside and outside of Cuba. Previously, the United States Embassy in Havana publicly questioned the actions against the influencer and her mother, in a message that further amplified the international visibility of the conflict.

Meanwhile, Anna Bensi's testimony continues to resonate on social media, where she has received expressions of support from other creators, activists, and citizens. "Not only do my mother and I receive support, but also a national cause: freedom," she stated.

What began as a legal process against a young influencer has turned into a broader symbol of the tensions between citizens and power in Cuba, now under the scrutiny of the international community.
