The Cuban influencer Kenny Robert surprised his followers this Thursday with one of the most emotional videos he has posted in a long time: the reunion with his grandmother, who visited him after about three or four years without seeing each other in person.
In the clip posted on Instagram with the caption "Happy with my grandma," Kenny excitedly opens the camera: "My people, I want to introduce you to someone very, very, very special. My grandma, who came to visit. My love."
But the real star of the video turned out to be the grandmother. With a natural charm and grace that won over the influencer's followers, she remembered how her grandson had been announcing his destiny since he was a child: "I’m going to be famous, grandma." And she, not quite believing him, would respond: "What famous person are you? You're just flashy."
Life, however, proved Kenny right. His grandmother said that at her workplace, everyone knows her as the influencer's grandmother: "Florita and Kenny, how are you? Oh, my daughter is crazy about him. Crazy about Kenny." And she proudly added, "Look, people know Kenny."
The video quickly amassed over 4,200 views, 1,529 likes, and 169 comments, figures that reflect the affection the Cuban community has for these kinds of authentic and relatable moments.
The reunion strikes a very sensitive chord among Cubans in exile. Family separation is one of the harshest realities of the massive emigration in recent years: many have gone years without embracing their parents, grandparents, or children, separated by distances, travel costs, and endless immigration procedures.
That's why the video of Kenny with his grandmother felt different. Because behind the influencer who makes thousands laugh, there’s a grandson who has been waiting for this embrace for years.
