In the midst of a media storm regarding her stance on the Cuban dictatorship, influencer Samantha Hernández was spotted dining with singer Malu Trevejo and influencer Kenny Robert, according to an Instagram Story posted by Malu Trevejo this Thursday. The image comes amid the controversy surrounding Samantha due to her refusal to speak on the situation in Cuba.
The image of the three friends together contrasts with the intense debate surrounding Samantha these days. Last Wednesday, a video of her reiterating her refusal to discuss Cuban politics went viral, triggering a new wave of mass criticism from the Cuban community in exile and within the island.
The controversy has deeper roots. In June 2025, Samantha explained her stance on the dictatorship in the podcast Farándula 305: "I never went out into the street, I never shouted... I don't have the face to stand on social media and tell anyone to go out, because I didn’t do it myself." She also argued that political debate on social media is a "circus" and a "business" without real impact: "The world already knows what’s happening in Cuba. I won’t change anything from a phone."
Last Wednesday, in response to the avalanche of criticism, Samantha responded through her Instagram Stories, making it clear that she knows the reality of the island: "Of course I know there is a dictatorship in Cuba, of course I know that people are hungry, that there are blackouts, that there is no electricity or water, that there are no medicines; that if you speak out, you get imprisoned. We emigrate because of all this, because we have no future on the island."
However, he justified his silence by pointing out the risks of social media: "I also know that many people are fans who record the screen and cut a piece out to spark conversation and go viral." He concluded with a defense of his right to remain silent: "That's why we live in the United States and other free countries, because there is democracy and everyone has their opinion, which must be respected, whether it's wrong or not."
Kenny Robert, one of her most active defenders and a fellow participant on the reality show El Rancho de Destino in January 2026, also posted a video on Instagram on Wednesday in support of her. "Not everyone is well-versed in political matters," he argued, aligning with what Kenny Robert expressed in defense of Samantha regarding the criticism she received.
