Ryan Gosling had a funny (and somewhat awkward) moment on television… all thanks to his relationship with Eva Mendes.
The Canadian actor visited the show The View to promote his new movie Project Hail Mary, but ended up facing an unexpected "Cuban test" prepared by host Ana Navarro, who wanted to see how much he has learned after more than a decade alongside the actress of Cuban roots.
The first question was straightforward: "What is a croquette?" Gosling replied confidently, "It's like heaven on a plate... something fried that you eat with your hands." Approved.
However, the stakes rose with the picadillo. At that moment, the actor completely froze: “I'm freezing!” he exclaimed with laughter, while trying to remember the answer. He had to receive help from the panel to get out of the jam.
Then came a more pleasant one: her favorite pastry. "Guava," she replied, this time without hesitation, earning applause from the audience.
The most complicated moment came with the meaning of "papi rico," which neither he nor his partner could explain correctly, leading to jokes on set. "Eva Mendes has to return my Cuban ID," Navarro said amid laughter.
But Gosling didn't give up. To regain points, he mentioned classics of Cuban culture such as mojo, yuca, and even the debate between Ironbeer and Materva, in addition to highlighting the rice pudding that Eva's mother makes.
That effort was enough to change the verdict. "You have redeemed yourself," Navarro told him.
He may still be missing a few lessons, but one thing is clear: after so many years with Eva Mendes, Gosling is pretty close to graduating as an "adopted Cuban."
