A Cuban resident in Albacete, Spain, identified on TikTok as @rosmerys027, shared a reflection on the differences between her current life and the everyday reality in Cuba, characterized by the scarcity of food and basic products.

In the video, the young woman begins by expressing her gratitude for the freedoms she enjoys in Spain, especially the ability to voice her opinions freely: "for giving me freedom of expression because here I can express myself and say what I like and I can also say what I don't like."

From there, he contrasts that experience with what he describes as a constant concern on the island regarding daily food. "I don’t have to think when I get up in the morning about what I’m going to have for dinner or what I’m going to eat, what I have in the refrigerator," he states.

In his account, he mentions specific situations: “if I have two eggs, I have to leave one for lunch and one for dinner,” as well as the limitations on acquiring basic products in normal quantities: “I have to buy just one, a little bit of oil because I can’t buy a liter.”

It also points out the high cost and scarcity of certain products: “I can't fry because oil is only used for more essential things.”

The young woman also addresses the limitations for leisure within the country. “It may seem strange that, being Cuban, I have never been to the beaches of my country, but that is the reality; I have never stayed in a hotel there,” she comments.

In contrast, he explains that in Spain he has been able to access recreational activities: "here in the summer, I go to the beaches; does it cost money? Yes, but my salary allows me to do that."

Another notable aspect is the ease of acquiring basic goods outside of Cuba. "If I don't have food at home, I can go out to buy the necessary things at the market, something as simple as that," he asserts.

It also recounts the case of a Cuban who bought products to send to the island: “he was buying toothpaste, soap, sponges, brushes, detergent, shampoo.”

"Buying basic things because they are not available in Cuba, and if they are, the price is very high," he adds.

The video has generated reactions in the comments, where several users express support, agree with its description of life in Cuba, or positively evaluate their experience in Spain.

The author concludes with a message of gratitude: “I am thankful for this country and I hope that Spain continues to prosper because, as I said in a video, if Spain is doing well, it means I will do well too.”
