The Green Light Operation 2026 kicked off this Monday in Miami-Dade with the goal of assisting residents with suspended driver's licenses in regularizing their debts without having to pay additional collection fees, as announced by Juan Fernández-Barquín, County Clerk and Comptroller.

The program, valid until April 19, automatically waives the collection fees that are typically added to unpaid debts sent to collection agencies, a surcharge that amounts to 30% of the total balance.

Eligible debts include traffic fines, parking tickets, misdemeanors, and criminal cases currently in the process of collection.

The charges have been removed directly from the system, so participants do not need to come in person if they prefer to pay online, which is available 24 hours a day.

Those who prefer in-person assistance can visit the court offices from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Payments can also be made over the phone: Traffic at 305-275-1111, Parking at 305-275-1133, and Criminal cases at 786-971-2746.

The office has also set up a dedicated email - OGL@miamidadeclerk.gov - and a voicemail and text message service available 24 hours a day at the number 305-999-5363, where interested parties should leave their full name, email address, and vehicle license number or plate.

Cash, personal and cashier's checks, money orders, and Visa, MasterCard, AmEx, and Discover cards are accepted. Payments sent by postal mail must be postmarked between April 6 and April 18.

The program also allows for the establishment of monthly payment plans with automatic billing for those who cannot settle the debt in one payment, although this option does not apply to parking fines.

Previous editions of the program have had a significant impact: they welcomed over 5,500 attendees and waived more than $275,000 in collection fees.

To recover the license through the Green Light Operation, participants must not have any other pending violations in other counties in Florida or suspensions unrelated to the non-payment of fines.

It is important to remember that in October 2025, the active number exceeded 85,000 individuals with suspended licenses in the county. Suspensions due to child support must be handled directly with the State Attorney's Office.

Fernández-Barquín has described the central purpose of the campaign as "helping people get back on the road."

It is worth noting that in the April 2025 edition, approximately $250,000 in fees were waived, reflecting the sustained impact of the program throughout its various editions.
