A fire was reported this Saturday at the Saturnino Lora Torres Provincial Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital, the most important hospital in Santiago de Cuba, according to a social media post by communicator Yosmany Mayeta Labrada.
"Firefighters and the communist leadership have already arrived at the Saturnino Lora Provincial Hospital following a report of a fire," it was stated on Facebook.
Earlier, I had reported: "I am being told that a ward at the Provincial Hospital in Santiago de Cuba has caught fire."
Mayeta also shared some images showing the firefighters at the hospital, although no further details were provided.
In the comments, a user known as Mayorcita with style said: "The therapy room, was an air conditioner that caught fire, I saw it, there was a huge rush transferring the therapy patients, at least everything was handled with the patients."
Similarly, Jenny Mosquera said, "The therapy room? The one that should be in the best condition? The one that cannot afford to transfer patients who are serious or critical?"
For her part, Maria Claudia Bolaños Rodríguez emphasized: "Two ambulances arrived at the military hospital, one small and the other large, the second one with doctors and nurses. After a few minutes, the small one left with people. I don't know if it's related."
A nurse confirmed to CiberCuba that the incident occurred in the intermediate care room, where there were patients from that area and also from the intensive care unit, the latter affected by leaks coming from the upper floor.
"It was the compressor of an air conditioner that caught fire, but there were no serious consequences. The patients were evacuated immediately," he explained.
On social media, some users reacted with irony and suggested that the fire could have served as a form of "disinfection," alluding to previous complaints about the presence of bedbugs and cockroaches in the rooms.
"Perhaps it's a controlled fire for disinfection," commented the user Rodríguez López Lorena.
