A taxi was completely burned after catching fire this Wednesday at the intersection of Concha and Melones in Havana, according to images shared on social media by witnesses of the incident.

The vehicle was consumed by flames in a matter of minutes, leaving only its metal frame, while firefighters arrived at the scene to control the blaze.

Although no fatalities or serious injuries have been reported so far, the incident has caused alarm among neighbors and passersby.

Several people gathered in the area while firefighting efforts were underway, in a scene that highlights how quickly such incidents can escalate.

This case adds to others reported in recent years in Cuba, where car fires have been primarily linked to technical failures.

Reports from CiberCuba document similar incidents between 2024 and 2025, such as a Chevrolet that caught fire after a suspected short circuit while waiting in line for fuel, or the fire in a truck in Wajay, linked to the deterioration of the vehicle fleet.

Even the most modern vehicles have experienced incidents in the middle of the street, although the outcome has been limited to property damage.

The recurrence of these incidents points to a structural issue: the aging of the vehicle fleet, the scarcity of spare parts, and makeshift repairs—factors that increase the risk of electrical or mechanical failures.

This is compounded by the intensive use of vehicles in poor conditions, often without proper maintenance.

Although in 2026 there is no significant increase in private car fires reported, incidents like this reinforce concerns about transportation safety on the island.

Prevention, technical control, and access to resources for maintenance continue to be ongoing challenges in a context marked by economic and material limitations.
