The immigration attorney Willy Allen stated this Monday on CiberCuba that the new secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Markwayne Mullin, has the power to immediately resolve the issue of Cubans with I-220A forms, if he so chooses.

The statement was made during a weekly program he has on this platform, in which Allen thoroughly discussed the legal avenues available for the legalization of Cubans affected by that immigration document.

"If he wanted to, he could resolve it today, which would bring me great pleasure. You know how many people would stop suffering, how many families would be together again, how many people could live in peace and tranquility throughout the United States," he said.

In May 2025, Willy Allen expressed his belief that the I-220A would be legalized, but he expected that the process would be "a little more difficult." He also warned that there would be "victims along the way, who will have a bad experience."

In response to CiberCuba's question about whether those victims are the individuals with I-220A forms, who have been in the United States for less than two years, the attorney answered affirmatively, including those who are unfortunate enough to get randomly detained.

As he has been advocating since March of last year, when the I-220A began to be detained in Florida, Willy Allen reiterated this Monday that the three Cuban-American congress members from Florida (María Elvira Salazar, Carlos Giménez, and Mario Díaz-Balart) can take immediate action to address the issues facing Cubans with I-220A.

The lawyer believes that the resolution of the I-220A is "administrative" and, in his opinion, depends on the "political will" of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

At the time, Willy Allen explained that the I-220A immigration status was established during Trump's first term, so there would be no issue finding a legal framework for it in this second term.
