Fire controlled at the general hospital in Cienfuegos

A fire that occurred on the night of this Tuesday at the Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima University General Hospital in Cienfuegos was , as confirmed by Telecentro Perlavisión, the official media outlet of that province.

The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. and initial reports suggest it was caused by a short circuit in the lower areas of the hospital, specifically in the basement or lower floors.

The medical staff and the firefighters acted quickly, proceeding with the preventive evacuation of patients located in the upper floors affected by the building's structure, the note indicates.

No injuries or loss of life have been reported. Patients are being temporarily relocated, and some are already returning to their wards, it emphasizes.

This is not the first incident of this kind at the hospital. In July 2018, a fire broke out in an open-air storage area containing construction materials, after which the hospital resumed its regular operations in August of that year.

The hospital, which comprises three facilities: the Clinical-Surgical Hospital, the Maternity Hospital, and others specializing in various fields, is the main health center in the province of Cienfuegos.

Cuba has reported several fires in hospital facilities recently. At the beginning of April 2026, a fire broke out at the Saturnino Lora Torres Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, and the Cuban regime revealed the causes of that fire on April 13.
