Hialeah Mayor anticipates arrests or attacks by the U.S. against leaders of the Cuban regime in the near future

The mayor of Hialeah, Brian Calvo, predicted that in the coming weeks or months, the United States will carry out an arrest or a kinetic strike against leaders of the Cuban regime such as Raúl Castro or Miguel Díaz-Canel, in an interview with journalist Enrique Santos broadcast on Facebook and on the station TU949 FM.

"I don't know whether it will be an arrest or if it will resemble Iran more, which was a kinetic attack, but I believe that one of those two things will happen, and I think it will occur in the coming weeks or months," he stated.

Calvo outlined two specific scenarios: an arrest and extradition similar to that of Nicolás Maduro, captured by U.S. special forces in Caracas on January 3 and transferred to New York to face federal charges, or a kinetic attack like the one the U.S. carried out against Iran, which culminated in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on February 28.

"In the same way that the government took action in Iran, which is thousands of miles away, why wouldn't it take action 90 miles to the south?" he questioned.

The official emphasized that "we have never been as close as we are now" and called for unity within the Cuban-American community, reminding that 2026 is an election year and that Cubans constitute "a very powerful political group" in the United States.

Calvo was emphatic that the change in Cuba must be total and unequivocal: "It's not just about removing Díaz-Canel; it's about removing Díaz-Canel, removing the Castros, removing all the communists who are in power, changing the system of government, and bringing a new Constitution that demands and urges free and democratic elections."

The mayor also revealed that Hialeah is actively working against the regime: "We are literally in Hialeah investigating businesses that are laundering money for that regime. We have the Task Force operating. We have already identified over 200 businesses that are involved in this investigative process."

That task force was created by executive order to examine businesses, licenses, and municipal contracts linked to the Cuban government and identify potential financial irregularities.

The statements came days after the Free Cuba Rally organized by Calvo on March 24 at Milander Park in Hialeah, which gathered over 8,500 people.

"It was an emotional, sentimental night, the last 67 years of suffering, but the hope for a free Cuba," the mayor described about that day, which he referred to as "a pre-celebration of what is just around the corner."

Calvo, 27 years old and the youngest mayor in the history of Hialeah, emphasized that his city—where over 70% of residents are of Cuban descent—is preparing for the early days of a free Cuba, including the shipment of medicines, food, and support for economic and institutional reconstruction.

"Hialeah is going to be, who knows, maybe the next president or senator is living in Hialeah right now," he noted.

Their forecasts are framed within a sustained escalation of pressure from the Trump administration on Havana: the president signed the Executive Order 14380 declaring a national emergency, imposed over 240 sanctions against Cuba, and last Monday stated that the country maybe we will stop in Cuba.

"How beautiful it would be, and it will be, and it will come. I have hope. I never lose hope that we will live to see a free Cuba and that Cuba can choose its future democratically," concluded Calvo.
