A high-end truck collided on the morning of this Wednesday with an electric passenger tricycle at the corner of Monte and Matadero, in the Havana municipality of Centro Habana, causing the lighter vehicle to overturn onto the asphalt.

As a result of the accident -which occurred around 11:10 a.m.- two men, a woman, and a girl were injured, as verified on-site by the independent outlet 14yMedio.

The accident occurred in the area of Cuatro Caminos, one of the busiest streets in the Centro Habana municipality, at an intersection where the traffic light was off at that time due to a power outage.

The truck driver tried to justify himself to those present by pointing out the absence of light signals.

"There was no power", he alleged in a context where prolonged blackouts have turned intersections without traffic lights into high-risk scenarios.

A video shared by the mentioned source revealed how, in just a few minutes, the corner became filled with onlookers, shouts, hands trying to help the passengers, and accusations directed at the driver of the vehicle.

In Havana, overwhelmed by the fuel crisis, the limited vehicle traffic does not guarantee safety.

El suceso no es un caso aislado: Key intersections in the capital have been without signage for several months, agravando el riesgo para conductores y peatones.

The situation recalls other recent disasters: just days ago, a chain collision at San Lázaro and Lealtad left two dead in the capital.

On the other hand, traffic accidents involving electric tricycles have multiplied in Havana.

In another recent incident, a car crashed into a tricycle taxi stand in Arroyo Naranjo, resulting in at least one death and several injuries.

Regarding the accident figures, despite a reduction in incidents in recent weeks due to fuel shortages, the overall situation is alarming.

Cuba recorded 750 deaths and 6,718 injuries in 7,538 accidents during 2025, figures that reflect the deep crisis of road safety the country is experiencing.
