Jeff Bezos shares a neighborhood in Indian Creek Island, the exclusive enclave in Miami known as the "billionaires' bunker," with some of the most powerful figures in sports, banking, technology, and entertainment, as revealed by the Instagram account High-End Properties.
The island, located in Biscayne Bay in Miami-Dade County, has only 41 residential lots and a population of 84 residents, according to the 2020 census.
One of the longest-standing residents is the Spanish singer Julio Iglesias, who has lived on the island since 1978 in a mansion valued at approximately 35.4 million dollars, long before Bezos was even known in the business world.
The Wall Street activist investor Carl Icahn has been a neighbor since 1997, with a property valued at approximately 45.2 million dollars.
Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner settled on the island in 2021 with a mansion valued at approximately 32.2 million dollars.
Rakesh Gangwal, co-founder of IndiGo Airlines, one of the largest airlines in Asia, has been residing there since 2015 with the highest valued property among notable neighbors: approximately 49.1 million dollars.
Among the other confirmed residents are Tom Brady, NFL legend; Colombian banker Jaime Gilinski Bacal; real estate mogul Don Peebles; Brazilian model Adriana Lima; DJ David Guetta; and art collector Norman Braman.
The most recent neighbor and the one who has spent the most money is Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, who finalized the purchase of a nine-bedroom mansion for 170 million dollars on March 2, setting a record in Miami-Dade County.
Zuckerberg is currently building on the island a 9,800 square meter mansion with 24 bedrooms, eight swimming pools, a movie theater, an underground garage for twenty cars, and a hurricane-proof bunker.
Bezos, for his part, acquired three properties on the island in less than a year: the first for 68 million dollars in August 2023, the second for 79 million in October of the same year, and a third for 90 million in April 2024, totaling 237 million dollars.
The island has its own municipal government, police, and a perimeter security system that includes a single access point via a bridge monitored by thermal cameras, radar that detects movement half a mile away and boat patrols.
The average price of properties in Indian Creek is 24 million dollars, a figure that reflects the concentration of wealth in a location where, according to the Instagram account High-End Properties, "each neighbor belongs to the highest circle of global wealth."
