An elderly Cuban, 91 years old, named Adriano moved thousands of people on social media after being recorded on video receiving a bag of essential goods from content creator Indriany, from the channel Indriany Vlogs Family.
In an emotional video, the young woman manages to reflect the extreme precariousness and vulnerability that elderly people face in Cuba.
When Indriany found Adriano on the street, the elderly man had just finished his breakfast: coffee and a bit of bread, without milk. "That was your breakfast, the coffee and the bread. There’s no milk or... No milk, yes, very complicated", the creator commented at the beginning of the video.
Then she gave him sweet and savory cookies, garlic, a brush and toothpaste, soap, detergent, and a kitchen holder.
Some of the products had been sent by a follower of the channel named Damari: "These were sent by Damari, a friend of our project's channel. And she's just fantastic," the creator explained during the delivery.
When Indriany asked him what he could give in return, Adriano responded with disarming honesty: "I'm very low on money".
In response to the question of whether he could offer a hug, the elderly man replied immediately, "Absolutely."
Adriano lives alone and receives occasional visits from his two sons. "One I raised and the other, but they are with their wives. Everyone is focused on their own lives," the elderly man said. When it comes to meals, he sometimes goes to the grandparents' house in the neighborhood: "I eat here many times," he admitted.
The video, published on Facebook with the title "What we did for this grandfather in Cuba will make you cry," has accumulated over 21,000 views and reflects a reality that data confirms harshly: according to the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights, 79% of people over 70 years old in Cuba are unable to have three main meals a day.
