A Cuban father identified on TikTok as @el.brillo.01 posted an emotional video dedicated to his daughter Carla Michelle la Rodríguez on the day of her 15th birthday, with a message that has touched thousands of users due to its sincerity and emotional depth.

In the two-minute and 23-second clip, the creator —known as "EL BRILLO"— speaks directly to his daughter and confesses the role she has played in his life even before he knew her.

"When the World was in a bad place and the World did not believe in me, Changó told me that I had a daughter named Carla Michelle la Rodríguez, there you were, you appeared, you filled my life with doubt, with a lot of love and much joy", says the father in the video, invoking Changó, one of the central deities of the Yoruba religion, deeply rooted in Cuban culture.

The message carries a spiritual and emotional weight that sets it apart from other similar tributes on social media.

The father describes his daughter as the strength that supported him in his hardest moments: "You have been the strength that the whole world never imagined, you were that engine, you were that force, you are very important in my life."

In one of the most emotional moments of the video, the creator defines his relationship with Carla Michelle in terms that go beyond a paternal bond: "My happiness is your life, my actions are your joy. My well-being is your beauty. My abundance is that you remain by my side forever."

The father also explicitly thanks the young woman's mother: "I thank you every day, I give thanks to your mom for giving me the chance to be the father of a daughter like you."

The video also includes a promise that summarizes the commitment of a father: "I will defend you against all odds because you are my most beautiful commitment, I will fight for you."

The invocation of Yemayá —orisha of the sea and motherhood, protector of children in the Yoruba tradition— also appears in the video description, where the father writes: "Happy birthday to my princess, I love you with all my life, may Yemayá always bless you."

This video is part of a well-established trend on TikTok, where Cuban parents —many of whom have been separated from their children due to the massive emigration that the island has experienced in recent years— post heartfelt messages on special occasions such as birthdays and quinceañeras.

The 15th birthday party is one of the most deeply rooted traditions in Cuban culture, with roots in pre-Columbian puberty rites adapted in Latin America.

The celebration includes the waltz with the father —a symbol of protection and emotional bond— the change from flat shoes to heels as a symbol of the transition from girl to woman, and a community party that the families prepare for years, even amidst the severe economic crisis that Cuba is experiencing.

This type of content has high virality because it resonates with the feelings of thousands of Cubans experiencing family separation.

In October 2025, a father surprised his quinceañera dressed as the character Stitch during the waltz, revealing his identity by removing the mask, in another video that touched the Cuban community on social media.

The father's ultimate desire in the video captures the dream of many Cuban parents: "All I ask of life is that one day I can be your best friend and accompany you on the journey of life."
