A Cuban grandfather became the focus of an emotional video posted on Facebook by content creator Indriany Vlogs Family, where he receives a bag of essential goods and reacts with joy and mischief: "They're going to envy me".
The clip, titled "We Helped This Cuban Grandpa Again… Look at His Reaction," confirms that this is not Indriany's first visit to the elderly man, highlighting a continued relationship of assistance.
Among the delivered products are salty crackers, detergent, peach juice, condensed milk, mayonnaise, strawberry yogurt, and garbage bags, items that have become highly sought after in Cuba due to extreme scarcity.
The grandfather also received a new bucket to replace his, which he described as "the shabby one that no longer works," and a jar sent by someone named Damaris so that, after eating its contents, he could store things in it.
As he said goodbye, the grandfather sealed the moment with a kiss and words full of gratitude: "May God bless you both and your family. Also, many blessings to you. And to your lovely sister."
Previously, he had summed up his mood with a single phrase: "Happy as a clam."
The phrase "they are going to envy me" regarding such everyday products starkly illustrates the magnitude of the crisis faced by the elderly in Cuba, where 79% of people over 70 years old cannot have the three main meals of the day, according to the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights.
The minimum pensions, set at 4,000 Cuban pesos starting from September 2025, amount to less than 10 dollars at the informal exchange rate, and 99% of retirees claim that they do not meet basic needs.
Of the more than 1.7 million retirees registered in Cuba, only 67,000 receive care from the Family Care System, with a budget of just 14,600 dollars for the entire country in 2026.
In March 2026, officials from Trabajo y Seguridad Social publicly admitted that there are not enough funds to care for vulnerable individuals, while in February the regime authorized private companies and cooperatives to open nursing homes for the elderly, effectively acknowledging the collapse of the state system.
Indriany also documented on Saturday the visit to Adriano, a 91-year-old man who had only had coffee and bread without milk for breakfast that day, and when asked what he could offer in return for the help, he replied, "I'm very short on money."
