The Miami-Dade County Commission unanimously approved a resolution condemning recent trips by activists to Cuba, particularly those organized by the group Code Pink, which they characterize as a form of "communist tourism" that legitimizes the island's regime.

The initiative was promoted by Commissioner Roberto J. Gonzalez, who harshly criticized what he sees as an attempt to whitewash the image of the Cuban system through visits that, he stated, contrast with the harsh reality faced by the population.

"Many residents of Miami-Dade —including those who fled from Cuba, Venezuela, or other countries in the hemisphere— have become proud Americans who value freedom and reject repressive systems," Gonzalez stated in a message shared on social media.

The official also denounced what he described as an "offensive spectacle," referring to trips where some activists enjoy luxury hotels, dinners with steaks, and celebrations with champagne, while—he pointed out—the Cuban people face food shortages, blackouts, and a lack of basic services.

The resolution approved by the county condemns the actions of organizations and influencers that, according to local authorities, contribute to legitimizing the Communist Party of Cuba or promote activities that could violate federal laws related to trade with the island.

Furthermore, it reaffirms the support of Miami-Dade for the Cuban people in their aspiration for freedom and democracy, amidst an economic and social crisis that continues to deteriorate the living conditions in the country.

Several of these groups like Pink Code have recently traveled to Havana and have shared photos from the visit on their official pages, with messages of support for the regime.
