The Cuban singer Ovi signed an exclusive contract with Universal Music Latino, one of the most important labels in the Hispanic market, marking a milestone that solidifies his career as the first artist from the island to break into the realm of corridos tumbados.

Ovi, whose real name is Ovidio Crespo Retureta, was born in Ciego de Ávila and currently resides in Miami.

Present at the signing of the million-dollar agreement were Duarte Figueira, Senior Vice President of A&R at Universal Music Latino, and Daniel Luna, recently appointed General Manager of the label.

"I am super excited at this stage of my life because I feel that for the first time I will have a real team by my side, supporting me through thick and thin," declared the artist, who reached this moment after a journey filled with challenges.

In its early days, he sold his house on the island, flew to Ecuador and crossed several borders to pursue his musical dream.

His career began to take off with the song "Envidioso" in collaboration with Ozuna, which propelled him into the international Latin scene and established him as an emerging voice in the genre.

However, the journey was not without its challenges. Immigration authorities held him for three months at the Krome Detention Center in Miami, where he faced the risk of being sent back to Cuba.

Finally, he managed to avoid deportation thanks to a legal pardon that allowed him to continue his career in the United States.

Today, Ovi has accumulated seven million monthly listeners on Spotify, a figure that reflects the reach of his music and undoubtedly influenced Universal Music Latino in their decision to invest in him.
