A Cuban resident in the United States showed on TikTok everything she bought at Dollar Tree to take to her family in Cuba, with a total expenditure of 91 dollars on hygiene products, cleaning supplies, kitchen items, and school supplies.
The creator, known as Lia (@liannatorres11), posted the video this Tuesday with the hashtag #reencuentro, anticipating an upcoming trip to the island to visit her mother and grandmother.
"I'm Cuban living in the United States and I'm going to show you all the little things I've been buying at Dollar Tree for my upcoming trip to Cuba for a price of $91," she explained in the video, a practice that has become a viral trend: family reunion videos in Cuba.
This is not the first time that Cubans living abroad have documented this type of shopping. Previously, the user @thalia_hr showcased a $21 purchase at the same chain of stores, also intended for family members on the island.
This type of initiative reflects the economic reality that Cuba is experiencing, where the average salary on the island is around 4,200 Cuban pesos, an amount that barely suffices to meet basic needs amid the widespread shortage of products.
The emotion behind these shipments has also been captured on social media. Recently, @chinareyes1604 shared their family's reaction to receiving gifts from abroad, a moment that touched thousands of users on the platform.
