The ambassador of Lebanon in the United States, Nada Hamadeh Moawad, publicly thanked President Donald Trump this Thursday for his leadership and support for her country during a meeting at the White House, on the occasion of the announcement of the extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon for an additional three weeks.
"Thank you, President Trump. Thank you for your leadership, for making sure to preside over this historic moment. The announcement came in the context of the second round of direct talks held this Thursday between Israeli and Lebanese representatives, an unprecedented diplomatic process that marks the first direct diplomatic contact between both parties in over thirty years.
The conflict preceding the ceasefire left a devastating toll: over 2,290 dead in Lebanon and 23 in Israel, according to data collected from international sources. The truce has been actively supported by Washington, which made it clear that Israel will not continue bombing Lebanon. It has been PROHIBITED.
In parallel with the negotiations, the region continues to experience tensions. Recently, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard opened fire on a container ship, an incident that adds uncertainty to the fragile diplomatic balance in the Middle East.
