Neighbors of block 4 in Cárdenas, in the province of Matanzas, collectively refused to sign an official form from the Cuban government, even after facing direct pressure and what they described as a veiled threat, as reported this Thursday by Christian Arbolaez on Facebook.
A woman accompanied by an older man arrived at the block collecting signatures in support of the Declaration of the Revolutionary Government "Cuba will not be a trophy for the United States", related to the commemoration of the anniversary of Playa Girón.
The residents, however, refused to sign the document.
According to the published account, when the neighbors refused to sign, the man accompanying the woman allegedly issued an implicit warning, which those present interpreted as a threat.
Still, neither of them yielded to the pressure.
The signature collection campaign has been presented by the Cuban authorities as a spontaneous initiative of civil society, although numerous testimonies from citizens in various provinces indicate that it is an organized mobilization from the State, with pressure on workers, students, and residents of neighborhoods.
The resilience of the residents of Cárdenas is not an isolated case.
On social media, a viral poem titled "I Do Not Sign," by author José Martínez has circulated, resonating with those who refuse to endorse a government statement amid the severe crisis facing the country.
Among the factors that most weigh on the public's mood is the decline in electric service.
Cuba has experienced five total or partial collapses of the electrical system in recent months, leaving millions of people without power for hours and even entire days.
December 2025 was the most critical month regarding blackouts, according to independent analyses of the energy crisis on the island.
