The Cuban actress Angelina Castro launched a direct criticism against the political strategy of the Cuban exile in the United States, asserting that decades of funding and votes given to Cuban-American congress members have not produced any concrete results for the island or for the Cubans living in the country.

In a recent interview with CiberCuba, Castro stated that he has no "illusions" about the situation in Cuba and has long stopped believing in what he calls "fairy tales."

"I am an older woman, nearly 50 years old, and after you pass 40, you have to sit down and realize the nonsense you have believed your whole life and how we have been used," she stated.

Castro, based in Miami and part of the so-called historic Cuban exile, stated that the United States has been providing funds to institutions fighting for Cuba for decades "and we haven't gotten anywhere."

For the actress, the closest moment to a real improvement was during the diplomatic opening of the Obama administration, which was heavily criticized by certain sectors of the exile community.

"The closest we came to improving the Cuban situation was when Obama was in office, and he was criticized," he said, adding that thanks to that openness, the internet arrived on the island.

Castro defended dialogue as a strategy and criticized that both Obama and the current Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, have been attacked simply for sitting down to negotiate with the regime.

"If we do the same thing, we will not achieve different results", he stated.

Her most direct criticism targeted the Republican congresswoman from Miami, María Elvira Salazar, whom she described as someone "more lost than I am in a church reading the Bible."

Castro questioned Salazar's statements in which she claimed that President Donald Trump was unaware of Trump was unaware of the situation of undocumented Cubans. "Madam, we are not fools, how long are you going to keep deceiving us?" he asked.

Castro argued that if Trump truly ignored what is happening with the Cubans, despite the numerous laws that Salazar supposedly promotes in his favor, then "the president should not be the president of this country".

The actress urged the Cuban-American community to reconsider their voting behavior.

He stated that voting for politicians who harm the living conditions of Cubans in the United States in exchange for promises about the island's freedom is "foolishness" that the community has been repeating for years.

"They're messing with us here in the United States because Cuba truly interests me."

"I want it to be free... but I cannot vote for a senator or a congressperson who is making things worse for me here with the fairy tale that they will make things better in Cuba. That's a foolishness on our part as Cubans, and we've been doing it for years," he concluded.
