Ivanka Trump reflects on her privileges and the challenges of being Donald Trump's daughter

Ivanka Trump openly acknowledged having grown up with "many privileges" and living an "extraordinary" life, but she also spoke about the painful moments that, according to her, shaped her character, in statements that went viral this Saturday on social media.

The words are part of an extensive interview that Ivanka gave to the podcast The Diary of a CEO, hosted by Steven Bartlett and published on April 9 on YouTube, where she talked for more than an hour and a half about her personal life, her career, and her family.

"I never worried about where my next meal would come from. I never worried about being able to afford the best school I could get into. By so many metrics, my life was extremely comfortable and easy," he stated.

However, Ivanka also acknowledged that her childhood was not without emotional challenges.

"Yes, I think about some of the challenges, the moments that were disgusting, uncomfortable, or my parents' marriage being torn apart. I believe those create the pressure that turns you into who you become," he stated.

The divorce of Donald Trump and Ivana Trump, announced in 1990 and finalized in 1992, was a public scandal widely covered by the media. Ivanka was just 11 years old when the separation was finalized.

In the interview, Ivanka also remembered her mother as a disciplined and demanding figure who taught her that "being underestimated is not a bad thing." Ivana Trump passed away on July 14, 2022 at the age of 73 in her Manhattan apartment, in what authorities determined to be an accidental death due to a fall.

Ivanka also addressed the professional cost of joining her father's administration. She closed her fashion and jewelry brand — which was generating around 800 million dollars in annual sales — to take up her own office in the West Wing of the White House as a presidential advisor from 2017 to 2021.

After that phase ended, Ivanka stepped away from public life and settled in Florida with her husband Jared Kushner and their three children. In 2023, she co-founded Planet Harvest, an initiative aimed at reducing food waste and supporting farmers by utilizing surplus production.

In the interview, Ivanka stated that she decided to permanently distance herself from politics to protect her children from the emotional toll she witnessed during her time in the White House.

The interview in The Diary of a CEO represents one of her most extensive and personal public appearances since she introduced her father to the nation during the 2020 campaign, and her words about the privileges and wounds of childhood have reignited public interest in her personal story.
