A Powerball ticket purchased in Kissimmee, Florida, won 10 million dollars in the drawing held this Saturday night, according to the Miami Herald.
The ticket was purchased as an automatic selection at La Caribeña Restaurante Mini Market, located at 131 Buena Ventura Blvd., in the Orlando metropolitan area.
The winning numbers of the draw were 25, 37, 42, 52, 65, and a Powerball of 14.
The prize was split between two players: the ticket buyer in Kissimmee and another participant in Texas, each entitled to 10 million dollars.
The result reveals a double statistical rarity: first, that two different players surpassed the odds of one in 292,201,338 to share the Powerball jackpot; and second, that this occurred in two consecutive drawings.
Just last Wednesday, two winning tickets for the Powerball jackpot—estimated at approximately 71.5 million dollars—were sold in Indiana and Kansas, dividing the prize between the two states.
After that draw, the Powerball jackpot was reset to 20 million dollars for this Saturday's drawing, and it was won again immediately.
This is not the first time Florida has made headlines with a million-dollar prize of this kind this year. In March, a ticket purchased in Leesburg won 10 million dollars in the Powerball Double Play format.
Kissimmee, in Osceola County, has a significant Hispanic and Caribbean population, which explains the presence of businesses like La Caribeña Restaurante Mini Market in the area.
In recent years, the region has witnessed several significant lottery wins: in July 2023, a man won 15 million with a scratch-off purchased in Kissimmee, and in November of the same year, a woman from Florida won five million dollars with a CASHWORD scratch-off.
The winner of the Kissimmee ticket must claim their prize at the Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee or at the Orlando district office, located at 1241 State Rd. 436, Casselberry.
According to the Florida Lottery, winning tickets of more than one million dollars cannot be claimed at regular retail locations and must be processed directly with the institution.
Meanwhile, no ticket won the grand prize for Fantasy 5 in this Saturday's drawing, and the next big prize up for grabs is the Florida Lotto for the drawing on Wednesday, estimated at 21.25 million dollars, a figure that even surpasses the recently won Powerball jackpot.
