Violence in rural areas of Cuba is shaking a community once again. The murder of a farmer in the eastern part of the country has caused shock and fear among residents, amid reports of increasing insecurity in the countryside.

The victim, identified on social media as Osvaldo Carbonel, was reportedly attacked after recovering his animals, which had been stolen a few days earlier. According to a report shared by the Facebook profile El Más Puro Rodeo Cubano, the man managed to retrieve his pair of oxen after several days of difficulties, but a week later, the suspected offenders returned.

This time, the outcome was fatal. Carbonel was allegedly assaulted with extreme violence in his home, an incident that witnesses described as particularly brutal. After the attack, the assailants reportedly took the animals again, although they later appeared abandoned several kilometers away from the location.

The impact has been profound. Family members, neighbors, and social media users have expressed their grief over the death of a man described as hardworking and humble, dedicated to caring for his animals, his main livelihood.

The citizen reaction has been immediate. Numerous comments reflect indignation and desperation regarding what has happened, with reports of increasing rural violence and the sense of abandonment felt by many farmers. Some warn that "fear is already prevailing" in these areas, while others assert that this type of crime is not isolated.

The case has rekindled the debate over livestock theft in Cuba, a phenomenon that, according to multiple testimonies, has intensified in recent years and poses a constant risk to those who depend on agricultural work.

So far, there is no official version of the events, leaving multiple questions about what happened.
