A Cuban citizen identified as Guillermo "N" was formally charged this Tuesday by a Control Judge in the municipality of Benito Juárez, Cancun, following the presentation of evidence by the Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo, which accuses him of drug-related offenses in the modality of petty drug dealing.
The case gained greater significance as it was linked to an assault that the accused committed on April 29 against his romantic partner aboard a city bus on Tulum Avenue, an incident that was captured on video and sparked public outrage in the city.
According to the official statement 175/2026-FDN from the prosecutor's office, Guillermo «N» was arrested in Supermanzana 25 in coordination with members of the Municipal Police, as part of the efforts against drug trafficking in the area.
Investigations indicate that the accused "allegedly engaged in drug trafficking activities in the area known as Las Palapas," one of the busiest spots in downtown Cancun, identified by authorities as a hub of illegal activities.
He was charged specifically with "possession with intent to supply the narcotic known as cannabis sativa," as specified by the attorney's office in their statement.
Regarding the assault, the prosecution detailed that the argument arose over the disappearance of a cell phone in the couple's home.
"According to the investigations, the now accused had a romantic relationship with the victim; after an argument over the disappearance of a phone at his home, the woman left the place and got into a public transport vehicle, where she was reached by Guillermo 'N'," the official statement indicates.
The attacker assaulted the woman in front of other passengers, who intervened and managed to get him out of the vehicle.
However, "he managed to escape the scene on a black motorcycle, which he allegedly stole from a neighbor," according to the prosecution, which is also investigating that incident concurrently.
The case fits into a documented pattern of arrests of Cubans in Cancun for drug dealing and domestic violence. In January, another Cuban was arrested in Cancun linked to a criminal network associated with the Sinaloa Cartel.
In April, a Cuban, identified as a leader of a criminal network, was captured in Cancun with an extradition order from Florida, while another Cuban was arrested in Cancun with an arrest warrant from the United States for conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.
In the context of partner violence, in July 2025 a Cuban man was arrested in Cancún for assaulting his partner and was linked to various charges, and in January 2026 another Cuban man assaulted his partner with a knife in Mexico City.
Currently, Guillermo "N" remains under criminal proceedings while his legal situation is being determined. The official record from the prosecutor's office states that "he is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a judicial authority," in accordance with Article 13 of the National Code of Criminal Procedure.
