Mexican authorities arrested a Cuban citizen identified as Yoexy N in Cancún on Wednesday, who is wanted by U.S. justice and was in Mexico without valid immigration documentation.

The arrest occurred during surveillance patrols in the Santa Fe II neighborhood, Supermanzana 325, in the municipality of Benito Juárez, when security personnel detected a motorcyclist who was driving recklessly, endangering the safety of pedestrians and drivers in the area, reported the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana de Quintana Roo on Facebook.

After a chase, the authorities caught up with him on Cartagena Street, where they proceeded to conduct a preventive inspection.

The man did not provide documentation to support his legal residency in the country, and upon verifying his identity, it was confirmed that he had an active arrest warrant issued in Tampa, Florida, for the crime of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.

During the intervention, a black Italika motorcycle, model DS 150, with blue stripes was seized.

The Quintana Roo Secretary of Citizen Security also reported that "this arrest was made following up on sensitive information obtained in coordination with staff from the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of the Unit for the Attention of Transnational Crimes, and with the support of technological teams."

The operation involved the joint participation of the Research Group of the Secretary of Citizen Security of Quintana Roo, the Secretary of the Navy, the Secretary of National Defense, and the National Guard.

This case is reminiscent of another Cuban citizen who was days earlier, linked to a criminal network operating since 2009 in Mexico, Spain, and the southern United States.

Yoexy N was made available to the National Institute of Migration to begin the extradition process to the United States, "due to being sought by the authorities of that country." It is worth noting that recently Mexico sent 37 additional inmates to the United States without a formal extradition process.
