Sandro Castro, grandson of the late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, published a video this week in the stories of his Instagram account to publicly thank the Cuban reggaeton artist Baby Maykol for featuring his name in several of his songs.

In the message, recorded with his usual tone of humor and camaraderie, Sandro directly quotes a line that appears in the artist's songs: "hey Sandro, you know him, damn Sandro."

"Well yes, good night, good afternoon, good morning, I want to send a big shoutout to my brother Baby Maykol who always mentions me in all your songs. Thank you so much for mentioning me, Maykol, in all your songs; you're really going hard, sticking to your genres, blessings from vampirash," Sandro said in the video.

The message ends with his usual signature "vampirash," the nickname he uses as a humorous alter ego on his social media, where he has amassed over 160,000 followers.

This gesture strengthens the bond that Sandro Castro has been building with the Cuban music scene over the past year. In June 2025, Sandro announced his own foray into Cuban urban music, and in September of that same year, he revealed that he would record music for the genre after expressing his admiration for Chocolate MC.

His relationship with the genre has not been without its frictions. The reggaeton artist El Chulo called him "old can" and "brazen," to which Sandro responded with mockery on social media. He also left a message of support for Chocolate MC after the artist's trial in Miami in November 2025.

Baby Maykol is an emerging artist in the Cuban reggaeton and trap scene who has gained visibility with several releases in 2025. Among his works are "Tiene De Mami De Papi," "La Bebida" featuring Wow Popy, and "Plakata," released on November 26, 2025, alongside Seikan Anikila and L Maldito 13. He also participated in the collaborative track "El reparto más duro que tiene Cuba," published in December 2025 with figures such as El Chacal, Jacob Forever, Yomil, and El Chulo, a production that brought together the best in the genre.

The artist works under the Gallery Music label with Greenup Studios and has also collaborated with Befocus Music, establishing himself as one of the rising talents in the Cuban urban genre.

Mentioning Sandro Castro in his lyrics can be seen as a nod to the most controversial public figure of the Cuban elite, someone who—beyond his surname—has managed to establish his own presence in the world of entertainment and social media. Sandro himself, owner of the EFE bar in Havana's Vedado, stated in March 2026 to CNN that most Cubans want to be capitalists, not communists, and openly criticized Díaz-Canel.
