A Cuban woman living in the United States showcased her living space on TikTok: a garage converted within her daughter's house, which she proudly refers to as her "little garage," "castle," "refuge," and "temple." The video, shared by the user @margelysgriego, has already garnered 239,000 views, 18,100 likes, and over two thousand comments.

In a little over two minutes, the woman showcases the space with a blend of humility, gratitude, and pride that resonated with thousands of Cuban and Latino emigrants.

"This used to be a garage, now it's my little garage house, it's my castle, it's my refuge, it's my temple. With all the humility in the world, I show it to you and offer you the idea if you want to make your own little garage house," he says in the video.

The space includes a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. At the time of recording, the remodeling was underway: the living room and kitchen had already been painted, while the bedroom and bathroom were still pending. As he explains, they have been living like this for almost four years: "It will be four years in November since we did it."

The tone of the video is not one of complaint or lament. It is that of someone who has found their place in the world and wants to share it as inspiration for others who are going through a similar situation.

One of the most emotional moments didn't happen in the video, but in the comments. Heydi Puch, who identifies herself as the daughter of the protagonist, wrote: "I am the daughter, I have always dreamed of giving my mom just a little of all that she has given me throughout her life; this is a small token of what she deserves."

The mother replied with equal affection: "I love you, my pretty girl, to the moon and back."

The audience's reactions were overwhelmingly positive. Cuban and Latino users described the space as "beautiful," "a blessing," and "your little house is lovely." One follower wrote, "I loved it, someday it will be me," expressing the desire to have something similar, and the author replied, "Amen, it will be so, blessings."

It’s not the first time a video of this kind has gone viral. In October 2024, a Latina transformed her garage into a home in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and the tour reached almost a million views on TikTok, with a rent of 1,400 dollars per month.

The case of @margelysgriego adds a particularly emotional dimension: she is not an anonymous tenant, but a mother living in the home her own daughter built for her as an act of love. Other Cuban women have shared similar experiences, such as a Cuban in South Carolina who proudly showed her new house or a Cuban who left Spain after six years to rebuild her life.

Cuban emigration to the United States continues to create complex family dynamics, characterized by separations, reunifications, and ways of living together that many document on social media as a way to process and share their experiences. As the protagonist herself summarizes at the beginning of the video: "With all the love in the world, here at my daughter's home."
