The Cuban police have resolved the strong-arm theft of an electric tricycle in the San Miguel del Padrón municipality in Havana, following the discovery of the vehicle and the arrest of a suspect.

In a statement posted on their Facebook profile "Blue Heroes in Cuba", the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) confirmed the location and arrest of a citizen who was in possession of the tricycle.

According to the official report, the incident occurred in the Jacomino Popular Council on an unspecified date, when an unknown person forced open the lock on a garage door and stole a gray electric tricycle without a license plate.

The owner of the vehicle recognized it upon seeing a sales ad on social media, which allowed the authorities to be alerted and locate the stolen item.

"Thanks to a Facebook post about the sale of an electric tricycle, the victim was able to recognize that it was the vehicle that had been stolen from them," reported the PNR.

With that information, the agents located and arrested a suspect and seized the vehicle, which was returned to its owner. The investigation into the theft is ongoing.

The statement assured that the police in San Miguel del Padrón are carrying out an "intensive effort to clarify crimes, based on systematic actions for searching and obtaining information."

The case follows a recurring pattern in Cuba: thieves attempt to quickly resell stolen vehicles on Facebook groups, which sometimes allows victims to identify their belongings and alert the authorities or the community.

This robbery had a relatively positive outcome compared to incidents that have ended tragically. In the early morning of April 15, in Cienfuegos, Adonis Fuentes González was murdered with knives while he was about to park his electric tricycle; the assailants stole the battery and the charger.

This week, Yudier Castellano was arrested as a suspect in a crime in Cárdenas, Matanzas, where the victim's vehicle was also stolen.

Dayan Sotolongo, a young man with a disability from Centro Habana, reported a few days ago the theft of his four-wheeled electric scooter, adapted for individuals with physical impairments.

The theft of electric vehicles has surged in Cuba in recent years, driven by the severe economic and energy crisis that has increased the value of these modes of transportation.

The Cuban Observatory for Citizen Auditing, an independent organization, recorded 2,833 verified crimes in Cuba during 2025, a 115% increase compared to 2024 and a 337% rise from 2023, with thefts being the most common crime at 1,536 cases —an increase of 479% since 2023.
