Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, introduced her newborn daughter Viviana, nicknamed "Vivi," who was born on May 1st.

"On May 1, Viviana, also known as 'Vivi', joined our family, and our hearts instantly burst with love," Leavitt wrote on her social media, accompanying the message with a photograph showing her holding the newborn in a room decorated in shades of pink and white.

Leavitt, 28 years old and the youngest White House press secretary in the history of the United States, worked up until practically the last moment before giving birth.

Her last formal press conference took place on April 27, and just four days before giving birth, she attended the White House Correspondents' Dinner, where an armed man attempted to enter the hall at the precise moment mentalist Oz Pearlman revealed the name "Vivian" as his attempt to guess the baby's name.

The president Donald Trump referred to the episode on the show "60 Minutes" from CBS News: "They were asking him the name of Karoline's son, but he didn't know it."

In her post, Leavitt described the girl as "perfect and healthy" and noted that her oldest son is adapting "happily" to the arrival of his little sister.

"We are enjoying every moment in our idyllic newborn bubble," she added.

Viviana is Leavitt's second child with her husband Nicholas Riccio. The first, Nicholas Robert "Niko," was born in July 2024, and Leavitt returned to the Trump campaign just four days after that delivery, coinciding with the attack in Butler, Pennsylvania.

To cover her maternity leave, the White House opted for a rotating scheme of high officials at the press podium. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was the first to take on this role, last Tuesday, and was described by an administration official as "a natural talent."

Rubio also took advantage of his podium debut to debunk the narrative of the Cuban regime regarding the embargo, in an intervention that garnered extensive media coverage.

His prominence in that role has led some analysts to view him as a potential successor with greater influence within the administration.

It is also expected that Vice President JD Vance, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and potentially Trump himself will take turns addressing the press during Leavitt's absence.

The spokesperson closed her message with a note of faith: "Thank you to everyone who sent me prayers during my pregnancy. I truly felt them throughout the entire experience. God is good."
