Shakira announced this Thursday that she will be the official voice of the FIFA World Cup 2026 with "Dai Dai," a collaboration with Nigerian artist Burna Boy, whose preview she posted on her Instagram account.

"From Maracanã Stadium, here is 'Dai Dai', the official song of the FIFA World Cup 2026. It arrives on May 14. We are ready!" shared along with a preview of the video.

The teaser for the music video was filmed at the iconic Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and features the Colombian artist on the grass of the South American colossus. The full song will be released on May 14, just weeks before the start of the tournament, scheduled for June 11, 2026.

Shakira's return to the world stage brings to life the phrase that her fans have been repeating for over a decade: there is no World Cup without one of her songs. The artist was already the voice of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa with "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)," alongside the group Freshlyground, an anthem that reached number one in twenty countries, sold over 15 million copies, and has accumulated more than 3.8 billion views on YouTube.

In 2014, she once again took center stage with "La La La (Brazil 2014)" for the World Cup in Brazil. Her absence in Russia 2018—when FIFA chose Nicky Jam, Will Smith, and Era Istrefi with "Live It Up"—and in Qatar 2022 created an anticipation that is now fulfilled with "Dai Dai."

Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, is no stranger to the World Cup: the Nigerian already participated in the soundtrack for Qatar 2022 with "Hayya Hayya (Better Together)" and is a Grammy winner in the Best Global Music Album category for "Twice as Tall" (2020). The collaboration between both artists blends Latin pop with afrobeats, two of the most globally popular genres at the moment.

The announcement comes at a time of intense activity for Shakira. The Colombian singer recently released the music video for "Algo tú" featuring Beéle and "Choka Choka" with Anitta, both included in her album "Equilibrivm."

The FIFA World Cup 2026 will take place from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, featuring 16 stadiums and 48 participating teams, making it the largest tournament in history. The opening match will be held at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, while the final will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
