They tried to break into Bolito El Efi's house just a few hours after his death in Havana: "There's no respect for anything."

Two thieves attempted to rob the house of Bolito El Efi in Playa, Havana, hours after his death. The neighbor Daniel García reported the incident on Facebook.

Just a few hours after the news of Bolito El Efi's death, two thieves attempted to rob the house that the popular influencer had purchased just two months ago in the municipality of Playa, La Habana.

The incident was reported this Saturday by Daniel García, a neighbor of the property, through his Facebook account, along with images of the suspects and a request for anyone who might identify them.

The robbery thwarted by an alarm

According to García's account, the two thieves acted "in broad daylight," around seven in the morning, taking advantage of the news of Óscar Portuondo's passing—Bolito El Efi's real name—to assume that the house would be unguarded.

“Caught off guard, these thieves were halted by the loud alarm that also woke me up around 7 something in the morning, and simultaneously they ran across the roof of the house next door and out through the courtyard of the clinic at 30 and 29, Playa,” García wrote in his post.

The suspects managed to escape without being apprehended.

García posted images captured during the incident and asked anyone who recognized the individuals to message him privately, promising to update the thread with more photos and videos.

"Less than 24 hours had passed since the incident."

The neighbor's indignation was summed up in his own words: "There is no respect for anything or anyone anymore. Nothing. They just saw the news and took advantage, thinking the house would be empty; less than 24 hours had passed since the event, and they were already showing their worst."

Bolito El Efi had passed away on Friday, May 8, in a traffic accident in Havana, creating a wave of immense grief in the Cuban artistic community. He had acquired the house in Playa, across from García's, just two months prior, after recently returning from the United States, where he had lived for a long time.

A farewell marked by pain and indignation

While the robbery attempt was taking place, Havana bade farewell to Bolito El Efi in the streets with elements of Afro-Cuban religious traditions: caps and turbans in green and yellow, and arrangements of white flowers.

Artists such as Ja Rulay, Yandi Barnada, Payaso Por Ley, El Yonki, Yomil, and Oniel Bebeshito expressed their grief on social media. Yandi Barnada revealed that the day before his death, they were coordinating his trip to Cuba to reunite with him: "The last hug we gave each other was something divine. Just yesterday we were arranging everything for my arrival. The truth is, I am not prepared for this."

The rise in criminal activity as a backdrop

The episode occurs in a context of unprecedented criminal escalation in Cuba. According to data from the Cuban Observatory of Citizen Audit, in 2025 there were 2,833 verified crimes recorded throughout the island, representing a 115% increase compared to 2024 and a 337% rise from 2023, with thefts leading the statistics at 1,536 cases, an increase of 479% since 2023.

In the municipality of Playa itself, in April 2026, neighbors had to capture a suspected habitual thief on their own due to police inaction, in a pattern that frequently occurs in Havana.

The third major loss of the Cuban urban movement

The death of Bolito El Efi is the third significant loss to the Cuban urban movement in less than six years. El Dany passed away in July 2020 at the age of 31 due to a cardiovascular condition, under circumstances that Yomil denounced as medical negligence. El Taiger was murdered in Miami in October 2024 at the age of 37.

The attempted robbery at Bolito's home, just hours after his death and before the 24-hour mark of the incident, adds a layer of collective outrage to a mourning that was already shaking an entire generation. “There is no respect for anything or anyone anymore,” insisted García, in a statement that resonated among those who followed the outcry on social media.
