A container loaded with humanitarian aid from Spain arrived this Monday at the Diocese of Cienfuegos, intended for Cáritas Diocesana to benefit needy families in the province.
The donations were sent by three Spanish entities: the Missionary Cooperation Association, based in Terrassa (Barcelona); Cáritas Toledo, from the Diocese of Toledo; and a group of collaborators from Pamplona associated with Opus Dei.
The page of Juventud Católica Cienfuegos, which shared the news on Facebook along with photographs, highlighted that these organizations "once again have expressed their closeness and solidarity with our Church and with so many needy families."
The download lasted for more than four hours and involved volunteers from various parishes in Cienfuegos.
Among the products visible in the images, boxes were identified with the logos of Cáritas, the Fundació "la Caixa," Eurocaja Rural, and the Diocese of Toledo, as well as cookies, canned goods, beverages, and metal containers.
The diocese's statement emphasized that "these aids represent a concrete relief for many needs that our people face today and are also a sign of hope and Christian fraternity."
This shipment arrives at a time of deep economic, energy, and supply crises in Cuba, where the Catholic Church and its Caritas Diocesan network have become one of the main channels for distributing international aid, operating without state mediation and prioritizing the most vulnerable sectors: single mothers, the elderly, the sick, and people with disabilities.
The Diocese of Cienfuegos, in the central region of the country, had not been included in the large aid operations concentrated in the east following the passage of the hurricane Melissa in October 2025, which affected over 2.2 million people.
In April 2026, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Cáritas Cuba distributed five containers of aid valued at 3 million dollars to eastern dioceses, while shipments of solidarity from Spain have also increased to various Cuban provinces.
In March 2026, the organization SODePAZ sent a container with medical equipment and computers from Torrelavega destined for the hospital in Matanzas and the municipality of Marianao, in Havana.
The diocese of Cienfuegos concluded its message with a reflection that summarizes the spirit of these acts of solidarity: "We give thanks to God for every gesture of charity and for all the people and institutions that, from different places, continue to extend their helping hand to our diocese."
