The former spy Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, national coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) and one of the so-called "Five Heroes," responded this Wednesday on Facebook to a report from the channel America TeVe that indicated President Donald Trump is becoming "increasingly frustrated" with the Cuban regime's ability to maintain its grip on power despite months of economic and political pressure from Washington.
The channel's report stated that Trump is facing difficulties in achieving concrete results in Cuba "despite months of economic and political pressure from Washington."
Hernández, under his profile "Gerardo de Los Cinco," responded with a brief yet direct phrase: "Poorly advised in everything related to Cuba, they underestimate our people, and then they are surprised..."
The post included the hashtags #Cuba, #CDRCuba, #LaPatriaSeDefiende, and #CubaNoEstáSola, in line with the narrative of resistance that the Cuban government has intensified in recent months.
Hernández's response comes at a time of sustained escalation of U.S. pressure.
Since January 2026, Washington has imposed more than 240 new sanctions against Cuba, blocked the supply of oil to the island, and threatened with secondary tariffs on countries that provide energy to the regime.
The result has been a drop of between 80% and 90% in Cuban energy imports, blackouts of more than 20 hours a day affecting over 55% of the territory, and an economic contraction projected by international analysts.
Trump himself described Cuba as a "failed nation" last Tuesday and alluded to the possibility that the United States might "take control" of the island in the near future, according to reports from international media.
Officials from your administration have expressed the expectation that the Cuban regime could collapse before the end of 2026 without the need for direct military intervention.
Hernández has been a recurring voice for the government in response to these pressures. On April 25, he led the symbolic tribunal "I Accuse Imperialism" in La Güinera, Havana, and on May 9, the CDR formally presented "My Neighborhood for the Homeland", a mobilization structure on three fronts.
Their response pattern is consistent: discrediting external analyses about Cuba as a result of ignorance or poor advice, while reaffirming the narrative of popular resistance against the pressures from Washington.
In a previous post, Hernández had already questioned whether Trump has any idea of what is happening in Cuba, following the same line of his statements from this Wednesday.
While the regime carries out campaigns for internal mobilization and its public figures dismiss external analyses, the Cuban people endure an unprecedented energy and economic crisis, with power outages exceeding 20 hours a day in much of the country.
