The president Donald Trump posted this Friday on his social network Truth Social a congratulatory message to his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., and his fiancée Bettina Anderson, whom he referred to as "the new member of the Trump Family," while explaining that his governmental duties prevented him from attending the ceremony.
In the message posted on Truth Social, Trump wrote: "Although I would have loved to be with my son, Don Jr., and the new member of the Trump Family, his future wife, Bettina, circumstances related to the Government and my love for the United States of America do not allow me to do so. I believe it is important to remain in Washington D.C., at the White House during this significant time. Congratulations to Don and Bettina!".
The backdrop of his absence is the tense nuclear crisis with Iran, which keeps the president anchored in the White House.
Last Wednesday, Trump stated that there was a "very good chance" of reaching a nuclear deal with Tehran, after postponing a military strike to allow space for diplomacy.
On Thursday, CNN reported that Israel was preparing to attack Iranian nuclear facilities, which further heightened tensions in the region.
The Iranian supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, rejected the U.S. nuclear proposal and described Washington's demands as "excessive" and "outrageous."
One day before the congratulation, The Telegraph had already reported that Trump might skip his son's wedding precisely due to the crisis with Iran.
The wedding, according to all indications, took place this weekend in an intimate and family-oriented ceremony, far removed from the ostentatious event the couple had ruled out months ago.
In May, the Daily Mail reported that Don Jr. and Bettina Anderson had indefinitely postponed a large-scale wedding as it was deemed "completely inappropriate" considering the context of the conflict with Iran, and that if it were to take place, it would be "very, very intimate," limited to family only.
The relationship between Don Jr. and Bettina Anderson, a 39-year-old socialite and model from Palm Beach, became public in late 2024.
The couple officially debuted as such at Trump's presidential inauguration on January 20, 2025, and the engagement was announced by the president himself at a Christmas party at the White House in December of that same year.
Trump concluded his message with a presidential signature in uppercase: "President DONALD J. TRUMP," a gesture that emphasized that, even in a personal moment, his responsibilities as the leader of the country take precedence over everything else.
