Cuban content creators Javi and Zami posted an emotional and critical message on Instagram regarding the situation in Cuba, acknowledging that the crisis has "greatly demotivated them in creating content" and describing a country where "sadness is everywhere you look."
In a reel just over a minute long, the couple —known for their culinary and travel reviews within the island— provides a stark portrait of the daily reality faced by Cubans.
"You enter social media and all you see is pain, insults, anger, fear. The truth is that social media right now only amplifies the stress of this harsh reality in Cuba," they stated.
Javi and Zami described the conversations that dominate daily life in Cuba: "How many hours were you given electricity last night? Did you get your turn for the gas ticket yet?"
That image summarizes the energy crisis the island is experiencing, where blackouts exceed 20 hours a day in Havana, and the national electrical system has collapsed at least seven times in 18 months.
"Right now, I believe many people feel like they are just surviving but not making any progress," they pointed out, in a phrase that resonated with their followers both on the island and abroad.
The couple also announced an upcoming video about the current state of Varadero, which they described as a place that "is dying little by little."
A follower from the resort confirmed in the comments the desolation of the destination: "Varadero on a Saturday and there are hardly any people on the street, it feels like a ghost town. No words."
The absence of posts for two weeks before the reel did not go unnoticed by her audience. "Yesterday I went to her channel to see if they had released any new videos, and I realized there hadn't been anything for two weeks. That made me think, it must be really bad in Cuba," wrote a follower.
Javi and Zami, who left Cuba in November 2025 for an international project and have apparently returned to the island, closed their message with a reflection on the future of the country.
"The worst part is that the wounds Cuba is suffering right now are going to leave tremendous scars for life. But well, hopefully, even with scars, Cuba can be saved," they concluded.
