The Cuban reggaeton artist Yulien Oviedo posted a video on his Instagram account this past Saturday, in which he offered public apologies to both the general public and his peers in the urban genre, stating that he wants to "start over" with anyone who felt offended by his words at some point.
"I want to smooth things over with absolutely all my colleagues in my genre. At one point, they felt offended... by some malicious comment," said the singer in the 1 minute and 15 seconds clip.
In the message, Oviedo acknowledged that "we are human beings and we are not perfect" and expressed his willingness to resume relationships with his peers: "I am open to doing anything nice with you, as long as it involves making music."
He explicitly mentioned Bebeshito and El Chacal: "Bebeshito, we are at zero, Chacal, we are at zero."
The most emotional moment of the video was the message dedicated to Chocolate MC, who is serving a 10-year sentence at the South Florida Reception Center after being arrested in June 2025 in Miami-Dade on charges of armed kidnapping, aggravated assault, and armed robbery.
“Choco, listen to me, my brother. From the bottom of my heart, I really wish for you to get through this, and when you come out of that hell, to be a good person who learns from the bad to turn it into something good, and may your music continue to resonate, my brother. We are starting fresh,” Oviedo expressed.
The gesture comes after years of accumulated friction. In May 2024, Oviedo made a very harsh statement against Bebeshito: "The day your artist sings like that, I will retire." In February 2025, he lashed out at the genre of reparto on the show Destino Tolk, claiming that to do so would be "to betray all the years studied" and that "anyone can do it."
With Chocolate MC, the tension has been building since November 2022, when the artist publicly responded to statements from Yulien accusing him of making "disgusting" comments about the people of Cuba.
This is not the first time Oviedo has turned to public apologies: he did it in July 2023, promising a fresh start, and previously, in July 2021, when he stated: "If I offended anyone, I sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart."
The video coincides with the promotion of his participation in the new reality show "La Prisión de Destino," from the Destino channel, giving the gesture a dual nature: both reconciliatory and promotional.
"Listen carefully to what I have to say to everyone, both to the audience and to my fellow artists, as for me, I'm starting from scratch. Blessings, and I'll see you on June 8 at La Prisión de Destino," Oviedo concluded.
