The Cuban singer Ja Rulay opened his heart in an interview with Familia Cubana TV recorded at the International Hotel in Varadero during the "Start of Summer 2026" event, where he candidly spoke about his early weeks as a father and his decision to leave Planet Records to establish his own record label.

His son Ja Rule Junior, the result of his relationship with Marell Infante, was born in May in Spain via cesarean section. Rulay was unable to enter the operating room but was the first to hold him, about 45 minutes after the birth.

With a surprising honesty, the artist admitted that he has not yet experienced the emotion that many parents describe when they see their child for the first time: “I can’t lie to you, I didn’t feel the click. You know? That father people talk about, I haven’t felt that yet.”

Interviewer Alejandro Cuervo, who also had a similar experience, reminded him that this bond is built over time: "It's something that gets nurtured, and that connection develops gradually, day by day."

Rulay also revealed that before having Ja Rule Junior, she experienced a miscarriage with a previous partner, a moment she described as a tough blow: “For me, I swear, I prayed a lot to God because I wondered, how can it be that something I want so much doesn’t want me?”

However, the demands of her career left her no room to pause: "I didn't have time to lie down in bed and start crying or anything because I had to perform at Johnny's."

He clarified that that loss was not the direct cause of his breakup with that partner, but rather that the separation occurred for other reasons.

In the professional realm, Rulay confirmed what many had already suspected: he is no longer part of Planet Records, although he emphasized that the relationship with producer Roberto Ferrante remains cordial: "Planet Records is still family because tomorrow doesn't mean that I won't work with Planet Records."

Ferrante offered him a renewal proposal that the artist described as "tempting" and "strong," but he turned it down to pursue his independence: "One always has dreams, and one must fight for their dreams, no matter the cost."

The new brand is called PHP, an acronym for Peace, Humility, and Patience, a name that Rulay has had tattooed on his skin since high school: "Since high school, my mom would get called to school because I would back out, and I would put PHP on myself and paint it with a pen."

Rulay announced the creation of PHP in March 2026, and by the time of the interview, he had already signed two artists under that label.

One of the pillars of its business model is to offer its artists 100% of the master rights, something that Rulay himself described as non-existent in Havana: "With me, I give you one hundred percent of your master. Ask in Havana, who gives you one hundred percent of your master? It doesn't exist."

The singer also acknowledged that for five years he was unable to collaborate with many artists in the genre due to contractual restrictions, and that now he has a lot of recorded music ready to be released on his YouTube channel, called "Y Rulay."

Regarding what he learned at Planet Records, he was clear: "At Planet Records, you learn to work. It's a school," he said, before adding that his goal now is for other artists not to make the same mistakes he made at the beginning of his career.
