The controversial Sandro Castro, grandson of Fidel Castro, announced this Wednesday through his Instagram account that he will serve as the host for a concert by Cuban reggaeton artist Yomil Hidalgo in Villa Clara and Cienfuegos this weekend.
The announcement was made through an Instagram story featuring the text: "EL VAMPIRACH PA VILLA CLARA Y CIENFUEGO ESTE FIND," tagging the venue Discobar Ekelekua as the event's location.
He later stated that he will be presenting the event and urged Yomil "to give it his best," because he is going to travel "300 kilometers to see you" amidst the severe fuel crisis on the island.
Yomil Hidalgo, whose real name is Roberto Hidalgo Puentes, is one of the most recognized urban music artists in Cuba.
Sandro Castro, who has more than 164,000 followers on Instagram, has built a public image as an influencer and nightlife entrepreneur in Cuba, associated with Bar EFE in Havana.
His figure is controversial: he champions the legacy of his grandfather but has also criticized the government of Miguel Díaz-Canel and has stated on his social media that he is “revolutionary yes, communist no”.
While Sandro Castro confirmed the closure of his nightclub in Havana, his privileges do not seem to be entirely affected by the crisis on the island, which has the vast majority of the population living through endless blackouts and lacking access to fuel.
The concert in Villa Clara and Cienfuegos will be, according to the announcement by Sandro Castro, this weekend at the Discobar Ekelekua venue.
