A team of 16 Cuban students won ten medals at the 2026 Ibero-American Olympiad in Computer Science: three silver and seven bronze, as announced by the Ministry of Education on their social media.

The competition, organized this year by Cuba, took place on June 20 online, with participants competing simultaneously from laboratories on the island, including facilities at the University of Informatics Sciences.

With that result, the Cuban delegation placed sixth in the Ibero-American medal table, behind regional powerhouses such as Brazil, Mexico, and Spain.

The three silver medals were awarded to Maité Morales Carreras and Diego Ernesto Camacho Arcis, both from Villa Clara, and to Fernando José Joa Cruz from Granma.

The seven bronze medals were awarded to Daniel Alexander Dosil Alsina and Ernesto Alejandro Solazar Coca from Santiago de Cuba; Daniel Alberto Seijo Aguila, Mauricio Cruz Siles, and Daniel Mantilla Diez from Villa Clara; and Zaniel García Orihuela and Ronelvys Fuentes Sánchez from Matanzas.

According to Radio 26 de Matanzas, four students from that province made up the Cuban team and achieved two medals and one mention, although the official list from the Ministry of Education includes only two medalists from Matanzas.

The result of 2026 represents a relative setback compared to the previous edition: in the OII 2024, held in Peru, Cuba won eight medals —six silver and two bronze— and finished in fourth place among 16 countries and 166 participants.

In 2026, despite winning more medals in total, the lower proportion of silver medals and the absence of golds placed the delegation two positions lower in the ranking.

Morales Carreras repeats his distinction, as he had already won silver in the 2024 edition, while Mauricio Cruz Siles arrives at the OII 2026 after winning silver weeks earlier at the IV International Al-Khwarizmi Olympiad in Mathematics and Computer Science, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where Cuba was the Latin American nation with the most medals.

The Ministry of Education congratulated all members of the Cuban team, as well as their teachers, coaches, and families for the results achieved in the regional competition.
