Leisnier Mauri Garcia, 40 years old, was arrested this Thursday in Miami on charges of attempted murder after stabbing his girlfriend 34 times on Sunday night, shortly after she informed him that she wanted to end the relationship.

According to the arrest report from the Miami Police Department, collected by Local 10 News, the attack occurred around 11:50 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, in the Coral Gate neighborhood, at 3400 Southwest 16th Terrace, which matches the registered address of the accused.

The sequence of events began while the couple was heading to a restaurant. Garcia saw a text message on his girlfriend's phone, sent by the father of her child, which sparked an argument. It was then that the victim told him she wanted to break up.

After the altercation, both went to an Airbnb to gather their belongings. Upon returning to the vehicle, Garcia claimed to have forgotten something inside and went back in.

When he returned to the car, he insisted on sitting in the back seat, something that the victim described as unusual because he always sat in the front.

What followed was documented in the police report: "Without warning, (Garcia) pulled a knife from the back seat and began stabbing her repeatedly in the back. The victim immediately opened the driver's door to try to escape the attack. She got out of the vehicle while pleading with (Garcia) to stop."

The woman sustained 34 stab wounds to the upper body, ten of which were to the neck. She was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she received medical attention.

The victim told investigators that the relationship, which began in December 2025, was "generally good," although she acknowledged that at times Garcia "would become aggressive" with her.

Additionally, she noted that this was not the first incident of violence: during a previous breakup lasting about two months, he also attempted to assault her.

The police located Garcia on Thursday just before 2 p.m. in the area of Northwest Fourth Terrace and 36th Court, in the Little Havana neighborhood.

He had lacerations on his hands and was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital before being placed in custody. He refused to speak with the investigators.

This is not the first time Garcia has faced criminal charges. According to arrest records from Broward County, he was arrested in August 2025 for grand theft between $750 and $5,000, public record forgery, and fraud, with bail set at $2,500 for each charge.

This type of aggression against romantic partners occurs with alarming frequency in the Miami metropolitan area.

In previous cases, a Cuban in Miami was arrested for assaulting his ex-girlfriend under similar circumstances, and another man was detained in Hialeah for hitting his girlfriend with a bat in the presence of a minor.

Garcia remains incarcerated at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with bail pending determination, according to Miami-Dade County records.
