A Cuban resident in Hialeah was arrested after attacking his partner and her 12-year-old daughter with a baseball bat and causing injuries during a domestic dispute early Friday morning.
The Hialeah Police identified the attacker as Jorge Luis Castillo Cárdenas, 35 years old, who, in addition to hitting both of them, made "inappropriate advances" towards the girl and attempted to kiss her, according to media reports.
According to the arrest report, the events occurred after midnight on Thursday, after Castillo had been drinking alcoholic beverages with a cousin outside the house.
His girlfriend told authorities that she returned home around 11:30 p.m. and found him drinking outside. After the man entered, an argument started between them.
The altercation began to spiral out of control when the accused made "unwanted advances" towards the minor and even tried to kiss her after the girl came out of the bathroom, to which she repeatedly refused.
Castillo's partner told the officers that he became increasingly violent, grabbed her by the hair, and slapped her in the face.
When the victims tried to escape, Castillo hit his girlfriend on the forearm with a baseball bat he had taken from the kitchen, causing visible swelling, and also struck the girl on the shoulder, leaving her bruises.
Both managed to escape and call the Police Department. Upon the agents' arrival at the scene, they found the aggressor outside the house still holding the bat.
The Cuban resisted arrest but was ultimately detained without further incident and transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade.
Castillo faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse without significant bodily harm, and resisting an officer with violence.
