A woman lost her life this Saturday when an electric tricycle overturned in Loma de Boquerón, in the municipality of Yateras, Guantánamo. The accident also left at least three other people injured, including a minor.

Isis Faure Vivas, a nurse at the Maternal Home in Guantánamo, was identified as the fatal victim of the accident by journalist Miguel Reyes.

The youngest injured was transferred to the Pedro Agustín Pérez Children's Hospital in Guantánamo, where she is receiving medical attention, the reporter specified in a post on Facebook.

So far, the authorities have not released official information regarding the number of victims from the fatal accident or its causes.

According to a preliminary report from communicator Carlos Pérez, the driver of the vehicle reportedly lost control on that part of the road, which caused the rollover.

Cuban Red Cross forces, SIUM, the police, and the health system in the province arrived at the scene immediately to assist the injured and secure the area, he said. Photos published on social media show several ambulances parked on the rural road, while medical and rescue personnel attended to the victims on-site.

Isis Faure Vivas was known at the Maternal Home of Guantánamo for her humane and calm demeanor with pregnant patients. Those who knew her describe her as a professional whose presence alone was enough to soothe the anxiety of those who arrived with uncertainty, highlighted journalist Miguel Reyes when reporting the news of her passing.

"In the Maternal Home of Guantánamo, she was not just a nurse. She was a refuge, a guide, that invisible hand that supported when everything seemed fragile," emphasized Reyes, who knew her.

"For her son and family, the pain is indescribable... because it's not just a mother that is lost, but an entire world contained in a single person," she expressed in a touching message. "Today, sadness intertwines with gratitude because her time in this world left deep impressions. Impressions in the lives she helped bring into the world, in the families she supported, in the friendships that now mourn her with broken hearts. And even though the pain is immense, so is the legacy of love she leaves behind."

The accident occurs in a context of severe deterioration of road safety in Cuba. In 2025, there were 7,538 traffic accidents with 750 fatalities and 6,718 injuries, according to data from the National Road Safety Commission. Motorcycles, mopeds, and pedestrians were involved in 63% of the recorded incidents.

In a report released last October, authorities stated that electric tricycles and motorcycles accounted for 52% of traffic accidents, 32% of fatalities, and 42% of injuries. These vehicles have become popular as a means of transportation due to the fuel crisis, but their use in mountainous areas poses an additional risk due to their technical characteristics.
