A serious traffic accident that occurred on the morning of this Tuesday at the intersection of 5th Avenue and 42nd Street, in Miramar, Havana, resulted in the death of at least one person and severe damage to three vehicles.

Witnesses at the scene captured images showing the force of the impact: one of the cars was overturned on its side with severe structural damage, while two other vehicles—including a black BMW with a crushed hood and a shattered windshield—sustained significant damage to their front ends.

So far, the authorities have not released official information regarding the causes of the crash, nor about the number and condition of the victims, which is common in Cuba, where citizen reports on social media often serve as the only immediate source of information on current events.

In the comments on the CiberCuba post, users reported the death of an individual, a fact confirmed by a family member of the victim: “The one who passed away was my uncle; he was the one who suffered all the impact.”

The health condition of the other individuals involved in the multiple accident is unknown.

In photos and videos from the scene of the incident, the presence of police officers and other officials from the Ministry of the Interior in olive green uniforms can be seen, along with numerous civilians who gathered at the site.

The area where the accident occurred, near the 5th and 42nd shopping center, is one of the busiest in the Cuban capital and has been a site of serious collisions on multiple occasions. In April 2025, a van collided with a Kia Picanto on Fifth Avenue, resulting in several injuries. In August 2024, a motorcyclist lost their life in an accident on that same avenue, and in September of that year a diplomatic vehicle and a military vehicle collided at the intersection with 84th Street, leaving two individuals in critical condition.

According to figures from the National Road Safety Commission published in February 2026, in 2025, 7,538 traffic accidents were recorded in the country, resulting in 750 deaths and 6,718 injuries.

Havana was identified as one of the provinces with the most unfavorable behavior, along with Villa Clara and Ciego de Ávila. Human factors are responsible for 91% of accidents, and the main causes include failure to yield right of way, lack of attention while driving, and speeding, the authorities stated.
