Dainelis Duque Estrada Díaz, 17 years old, known in her neighborhood as "La Jimagua," was identified as the teenager who lost her life on Friday in the neighborhood La Güinera, Arroyo Naranjo municipality, Havana, after being stabbed in the chest during a street altercation, according to the platform NiO Reporting a Crime, based on information provided directly by her family.
The young woman was not the target of the attacker. According to family members, the attack was directed at another young man identified by neighbors as the son of Luisito "El Enano," who was riding a motorcycle.
Dainelis was accompanying him to pick up a package when the incident occurred. A relative reported on social media: “He stabbed the guy and it hit my cousin, in the middle of the chest.”
The family circulated a poster seeking information with the photograph of the alleged perpetrator, who was wanted at the time of the publication. Cuban authorities have not released any official statement regarding the case nor confirmed the capture of the suspect.
Dainelis' family is demanding justice and making an urgent appeal to the public to assist with any information that could help locate the alleged perpetrator.
A family member wrote on social media: "We only ask for justice. She was only 17 years old. Coward: if you had the courage to do it, have the courage to turn yourself in."
The case generated a wave of indignation on social media. Dozens of people, including neighbors, acquaintances, and citizens who did not know the young woman, expressed their condolences and demanded that the responsible party be brought to justice. Several comments emphasized that Dainelis had no involvement in the conflict.
A person who knew both the victim and the alleged attacker wrote: "The girl was from my neighborhood, and the guy was a long-time customer of my barber shop. Life is a roulette that strikes with both hands. Wherever you go, surrender yourself: you have children, and no one knows better than you how to love a child. The girl wasn’t to blame."
Another comment stated: "That person who has the courage to surrender to the authorities. Every minute that passes without doing so makes them more contemptible. It does not matter what the reason was: be a man and face it."
Several comments also mentioned that Dainelis's mother is out of the country. "God give strength to that mother who is so far away. She must be in devastating pain," wrote one user.
La Güinera has been accumulating a series of violent events in recent months: in November 2025, Diosdaysis Sandoval Damas, 28 years old, was murdered by her ex-partner in the same neighborhood; in February 2025, musician Rayne Paisan Dales also lost his life there.
The municipality of Arroyo Naranjo was identified in December 2024 as one of the four in Havana with the highest concentration of drug trafficking and drug addiction.
At a national level, the Cuban Citizen Audit Observatory recorded 2,833 verified crimes in 2025, a 115% increase compared to 2024.
Since 2019 until June 2026, independent observers documented over 350 femicides in Cuba, in a context of a lack of specific legislation and institutions that do not provide effective responses.
A cousin of the victim summarized the feelings of the entire family: "Cousin, justice. We will stay calm, no one in the family will rest until this is finished for you."
