The firefighters discovered the lifeless body of Jesús Cordoví Rubido this Saturday, the custodian of the Sports Complex in the municipality of Morón, Ciego de Ávila province, who had been missing for five days after leaving his workplace on Monday, July 6, without ever returning home.
The news was confirmed on Facebook by Guillermo Rodríguez Sánchez, who had initially spread the alert of disappearance and received the notice directly from a family member: "Unfortunately, the outcome was the worst possible; Jesús was found minutes ago, lifeless, by the firefighters after an intensive search by family, neighbors, and authorities."
Jesús had finished his shift at the Sports Complex around eight in the evening on Monday, July 6th. His family called him to let him know that dinner was ready, but he never arrived home in the Loma Ciega neighborhood.
The police began investigations following the family report and managed to locate his bicycle, although there was no sign of him.
Throughout the week, family members, neighbors, and friends searched the nearby hills without finding him. According to Rodríguez Sánchez, "a large part of the town of Morón helped search for him during the entire week he was absent from his home."
The authorities are pursuing several lines of investigation. One of them suggests that Jesús took his own life, according to the initial evaluations of the body, although the statement itself clarifies that "other causes or suspects are not ruled out."
One key element that the family points out is that, days before his disappearance, Jesús confronted a group of night cartmen whom he caught stealing blocks and other construction materials in his area of watch.
Those who spread the case indicated that "there could be the main element to investigate."
Those who knew him described him as a calm and hardworking person: "Jesús is a straightforward guy, good people, who would come and go peacefully to his job as a custodian."
The case adds to a pattern of insecurity that has been affecting the municipality of Morón in the past 18 months.
In January 2025, the elderly Heriberto Llanez García was found dead in a mangrove in Loma de Cunagua after being missing for months. That same month, 65-year-old José Alberto Campo Cruz also went missing, whose murder was confirmed in May 2025.
Nationwide, thefts of construction materials have multiplied across various provinces, leaving facility guards in a position of extreme vulnerability when confronting the thieves.
In May 2026, a cafeteria custodian was killed by mechanical asphyxia during a robbery in Yaguajay, Sancti Spíritus, in a case that highlighted the same pattern of violence against workers who protect state assets.
The investigation into the death of Jesús Cordoví Rubido remains open, and the family is awaiting the authorities to determine with certainty the exact circumstances of his passing.
