José Alberto Campo Cruz, a 65-year-old Cuban who has been missing since January 3 in the municipality of Morón, in the province of Ciego de Ávila, may have been murdered.

Campo Cruz was a Geography teacher, a methodologist, and also held positions as the secretary of the Party, a delegate for over 40 years, and a judge in the city court, as reported on social media by his own daughter when raising the alarm about his disappearance.

However, authorities are no longer searching for him alive, but rather focusing their efforts on locating his remains, following revelations that he may have been allegedly murdered, as reported by activist Irma Broek on social media, citing sources close to the case.

It has emerged that a man has reportedly confessed to his involvement in the crime, stating that he acted alongside two other accomplices.

According to the version of the alleged killer, the victim was returning from an activity at a school when they passed in front of his house.

At that moment, he invited him to have a drink and, once in the patio of the house, a discussion arose regarding a check issue.

Tension escalated until, in a fit of rage, the assailant attacked Campo Cruz with a machete, taking his life.

Subsequently, with the help of the other two involved, they disposed of the body.

Search efforts have intensified at a landfill located near a wall, where, according to evidence, the victim's remains may have been discarded.

In a photograph shared by the sources, the house of the alleged attacker is marked in red, while the search area is highlighted in blue and yellow.

Since January 24, Elien Campos, daughter of José Alberto Campos Cruz, has made several posts on Facebook asking for help to locate her father.

"My father, José Alberto Campos Cruz, 65 years old, known by many in Morón, disappeared on January 3rd. After participating in an activity with friends, he was on his way home on the stretch of the Patria road, between the Rafaela and Carlos Lens bridge, where he resides, when he went missing," wrote his daughter in her first plea for help to locate her father."

He explained that at the time of his disappearance, the man was wearing a red sweater, blue denim pants, and black sneakers. In addition, he was riding a women's Chinese bicycle with new tires that were gold and white.

"Since that moment, we haven't heard anything from him," lamented Elien, who also informed the authorities about her father's disappearance.

At the beginning of February, Elien expressed her distress after a month without news of her father:

"Daddy, it's been a month since you were last with me, and I swear these days have been the worst of my life. But I will not rest, I will not give up, and I will not settle for the fact that there are no traces of you. I will fight to find out what happened to you or what they did to you. My old man, I just want you to know, wherever you are, that your little girl will not rest until she knows what happened to you. I miss you so much and I only ask God to give me strength to keep searching for you even under the stones. I love you, my old man," she wrote.

On February 21, her desperation grew, and in another post, she called for greater support from the community and authorities to intensify the search

"Dad, I will do whatever it takes, no matter the cost, to find you. It can't be that in such a small village people just disappear like this, leaving no trace. I need more support from the authorities and, as your daughter, if I don't find answers, I will go wherever I need to go, but I won't accept that there's no trace. Help me make this post go viral. It’s a desperate daughter trying to find her dad, a principled man, a revolutionary, who has given everything for this country. Help!" she wrote.

The case has sparked a strong reaction on social media, where multiple users have expressed their horror and outrage at what happened.

"For me, she was the noblest and simplest person I have ever known. I hope justice is served. It's regrettable, sad, very sad," lamented a commentator who knew her.

"Great neighbor, man and friend. Strong hand against the killers!" pointed out another citizen.

"My God, what a kind of crime!"; "What is that, for God’s sake, what horror!"; "My God, I am speechless"; "The laws are very lenient with these murderers; they take someone's life for the slightest reason. This is too much!"; "Speechless… Morón, a city of terror. We can’t even go out anymore; we are in a state of panic," are other opinions.

"This has been horrible, let's hope the law is fully upheld. In fact, there isn't much to say, only the DEATH PENALTY for those involved in the events. There is no mercy for them!" declared another internet user.

As of the closure of this report, official sources have not commented on the case.
