The ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel toured the Latin American Defense Zone on Friday, in the Havana municipality of Cerro, to review the special plans of the so-called People's War in the context of National Defense Day.

The visit, held at the Latinoamericano Stadium, the venue for the meeting with the territorial leadership, brought together the highest military and political officials of the regime: Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera, Minister of the Armed Forces; Army Corps General Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas, Minister of the Interior; Esteban Lazo Hernández, President of the National Assembly; Division General Ernest Feijóo Eiró, Chief of the Western Army; and Liván Izquierdo Alonso, President of the Provincial Defense Council of Havana, as reported this Sunday by the official website of the Cuban Presidency.

Ramón Rivero Pérez, president of the Latin American Defense Zone, presented to Díaz-Canel the territorial strategy for times of peace and the plans to address exceptional situations in an area that encompasses over 19,300 residents.

Among the detailed points were the protection of economic targets, the operation of the Production and Defense Brigades, the maintenance of water supply, food production in popular gardens, plots, and organoponics, as well as support for 150 individuals in the so-called transit community and more than 100 beneficiaries of the Family Care System, the source indicated.

He also specified that the Community Youth Network, an initiative that coordinates actions for defense, production, and ideological training, is already operational in this area of Cerro. In the coming days, the inauguration of a Senior Center with capacity for almost 60 people is planned, along with the launch of two community solar power generation facilities.

At the end of the exchange, Díaz-Canel emphasized that all Working Groups from each Defense Zone must be prepared to implement the ongoing economic and social reforms, due to their direct involvement in the plans for defense preparedness.

At the conclusion of the meeting at Cerro, Rivero summarized for reporters the mantra that the regime repeats at every inspection: "In these difficult times, the first priority is to defend our Homeland and preserve human lives above all else."

Sunday's inspection is the most recent in a long series of nearly weekly military tours that Díaz-Canel has been conducting since January, when the regime declared the Year of Readiness for Defense.

In previous weeks, he visited the Wajay Defense Zone, in Boyeros on July 5; the Carmelo Zone, in El Vedado, on June 20; and the Santa Fe Zone, in Playa, on June 12.

The regime justifies the mobilization as a response to the threats from the government of Donald Trump, which have intensified following the capture of former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro by American forces in January.
