José Ariel Olivera reported this Monday, through the Facebook group "REVOLICO YAGUAJAY 2026," that workers from the cemetery in Yaguajay, in the province of Sancti Spíritus, broke into the vault of his deceased son and stole items of great sentimental value.

According to Olivera's account, the individuals responsible — whom the complainant claims are employees of the cemetery itself — forged a key to access the vault and steal the belongings that the family had left alongside their son's remains.

"Two gentlemen, if they can be called that, who are nothing but rats, the so-called guasanga, workers at the cemetery of Yaguajay, who committed a robbery by force by falsifying a key to my vault," the father wrote in his post.

Olivera went to the police, who managed to recover some of the stolen items, but not all of them.

"Some things were recovered; the rest, which have sentimental value, he didn't even say what he did with them," he lamented, referring to what can no longer be retrieved.

What outrages the father most is the response from the authorities: the detainees were released and returned to work at the same cemetery where they committed the robbery.

"They were released as if they had done nothing, and they are left working in the cemetery, thieves," he denounced.

Olivera directly blames the Cuban government for the impunity: "This government does nothing, and they are left in their positions."

The father asserts that he will go "to the end" in his demand for justice and urges other family members to check the graves of their loved ones in that cemetery, warning that there could be more victims.

"Please share, justice for all those who have been victims of theft in that place and justice for my son," Olivera concluded in his post.

The case is not isolated. In August 2024, residents of the Kilo 12 neighborhood in the capital of Sancti Spíritus, found a human skull on the street after confirmed thefts of mortal remains from the municipal cemetery, allegedly for religious ceremonies.

In June of this year, a family reported vandalism and desecration of niches in the Colón Cemetery in Havana, with exposed skeletal remains and broken covers.

Additionally, in May, there was a warning about the looting of marble planters and crucifixes in the cemetery of Pinar del Río.
